Animal Care

When, why and how should animals be in human care? Are we meeting these animals’ needs? How do we know? How are humans impacting wild animal habitats, and does that decrease the safety of the animals living there? How many times do people have an inaccurate view of the wild, and the challenges animals face in the wild? Do people who insist on releasing animals in human care to the wild know of the many deaths of animals that have occurred as a result of releasing animals to the wild? We have explored these questions and will continue to research all of this. Animals in human care can be a complex issue.

We admit there are facilities that can improve their animal care, especially outside of the United States where we live.

We also know that many facilities are taking exceptional care of their animals. These facilities are also often involved in research, education, and wildlife conservation. The benefits of having animals in their care are huge!

There is a very important difference between animal welfare and animals rights. Supporters of animal rights want to ban all use of animals by humans, including eliminating service and therapy animals as well as the keeping of pets. Supporters of animal welfare seek to maintain and improve all aspects of animal well-being within human interaction and care. At TERRA, we believe in and support Animal Welfare.

We highly encourage people who care about animals to research the difference between Animal Welfare and Animal Rights and know which well known animal groups fall into which category. If you are a supporter of animal welfare, you may not want to support the extreme campaigns of animal rights groups due to lack of information.
